It is widely known that good time management makes work more efficient and boosts performance. In addition, ordering priorities lowers stress and helps us achieve more in a shorter period of time. What’s more, it also enables us to easily balance work and personal life by helping us more successfully schedule work tasks, household duties, and leisure activities.

We’ve prepared a useful list of tips and tricks on how to manage your time easily and effectively.

1. Make a to-do list

A to-do list would help you keep all your tasks ordered in one place. Depending on your preferences, you could use a paper notebook or a digital app. Paper works great when using different colors and decorations for emphasizing specific tasks. A digital list is easy to edit and could help you with sorting and prioritizing.

No matter what tool you choose, make sure to prioritize tasks. Setting up deadlines and clearly defining the importance and urgency of each task would help you allocate your time correctly and guide you on where to start. Even if a task doesn’t have a defined deadline, adding one would help you schedule.

In addition, dividing work tasks, household duties, and leisure activities into separate to-do lists would keep your life balanced and help you allocate enough time for anything. Also, keep it simple and don’t mix working hours with household duties. This will avoid confusion and make scheduling more efficient.

2. Organize yourself

Spend a few minutes in the morning allocating time for different tasks and plan your day ahead. Start with the most important or the ones that require more energy and hard work. Starting with the toughest tasks while your mind is still fresh makes them easier and more fulfilling to complete.

Be consistent and check your to-do list regularly. Looking at it in the morning mentally prepares you for the day ahead. Get back to it after completing a task to stay focused and avoid forgetting important duties. Moreover, constantly revise your list to keep it up-to-date and make the most of it.

As soon as you think of a task, write it down. Don’t simply rely on your mind to remember it. Write it down on a sticky note or go to your Notes app and add it there. This will leave your brain free to focus on your current and more crucial tasks. Also, use tight language and keep your labels short. This would help you with going through your list to get a grasp on what’s coming next.

3. Set limits

Don’t overshoot and schedule 3-5 tasks per day. Choose the number of tasks depending on their length and complexity. Even if it doesn’t seem like a lot, it would allow you to focus instead of stress over the huge amount of work you need to complete and the little time you have left.

Work on one task at a time. If needed, save a timeframe in your calendar and focus on a single task. Don’t get distracted by messages or emails and concentrate on what you’ve already started. This way, you won’t lose your mind and great ideas, but would rather save time and be efficient.

After marking a task as completed (or whenever you feel the need to), give yourself a break. Having a chat with your colleagues, grabbing a drink, or going for a short walk will relax your brain and refresh your mind. Sometimes, being stuck on something for too long leads to demotivation and makes one unproductive.

All in all, being good at time management makes life less stressful and more successful. Spend some time planning your day and give yourself a productivity boost. Be consistent and don’t forget to regularly take a break to stay motivated and energized.
